| Posted at 2007-03-12 18:54:14 | | Mishap with one Counter | Ooooops! I'm afraid I just had a mishap with one of the counters. At the moment it doesn't show any of the hits from 2007, as a result of a really clumsy move from me. 
So if you find fewer hits than last time you visited the site, it's because of this. 
The counter from StatCounter is not affected.

| Posted at 2007-03-09 17:33:02 | | Upgraded CW and New Puzzles Added! | Finally it's time for a Crossword Application Upgrade and also New Puzzles are Added!
A few months ago I started working on an improved interactive crossword application. The old one was working, but lacked loads of functionality that I wanted to have. Also, the whole thing built on a very complicated structure which was really off-putting for constructing new ones. I was enough tired of this situation to finally approach JavaScript from a more "professional" stand-point: 1) Learn it 2) Use it.  (As opposed to skip to 2) straight away.) It has taken quite awhile, mostly due to lack of free hours to work in. Anyway, finally, here it is! I have tested it in Internet Explorer v6 (IE) and Firefox v1.5 (FF). It works in both. As long as your window isn't too narrow, the two "columns" should stay beside eachother in both IE and FF. Also please note that if you have any direct links to crosswords they are broken now.
If you run into any bugs however, please let me know and I'll try to fix them ASAP.
You're also welcome to give feedback on this new functionality, wether positive or negative. 
Apart from this new functionality, there are three new Puzzles up:
PS/SS Review Quiz,
General Crossword 2 and
Sirius Crossword.
The update emails has been sent to everyone on the email list.

Edit: Going through and tidying, I spotted a file that needed updating regarding rates. So now at least it's possible to rate the two newest Logic Puzzles too.
Edit2: Thanks to Sneezler who alerted me , you can now also rate the quizzes! And I've looked over the other types of puzzles too. There shouldn't be any problems there.
As always, I apreciate a lot to be told when something doesn't work.
Also made a minor change to the coloring scheme. Now used links has the same color as the text, which I prefer.

I am about to hook an improvement I've been working on for quite a while up to T&T. In the meantime the crossword part of this site will be unreachable. If you try to load a crossword page you'll end up here at News instead. This process will likely last for several hours. In the meantime you can explore the other parts of this site.

| Posted at 2007-03-01 11:20:49 | | Fixed the Highscore Bug for CWs | Finally had time to track down and fix the odd bug that made it impossible to see the entire highscore list for a crossword! Phew!
Also improved the rating to be easier to handle behind the scenes, so if there's been a problem rating anything earlier, it should be gone now.

I've finally located the reason why the newest Logic Puzzles didn't show my opinion of them. This is now fixed, took all of a minute...  Sorry you had to wait so long for that, it had completely escaped my attention that this opinion wasn't showing.
I'm working behind the scenes with some improvements, more of that later...

What an  HP year 2007 is gearing up to be!!! We finally got a release date for the last and final book: July 21st. And movie OOTP is due July 13th. We sure know what we'll do in July, don't we?
I am doing something of a clean-up in the database, getting ridd of old and unused things and space. In this process I have decided to remove all unconfirmed members who registered before June 2006. My distinct impression is that if they haven't confirmed so far, they are not going to. In the unlikely event that I am wrong here, they'll just have to re-register.
Yesterday I finally managed to a fix an annoying problem, so now the Latest news link should be back in the left side of the window.

Two years ago, today, Try & Trix appeared on the Internet horizon, after nearly six months of preparations. During 2006 Try & Trix had over 4.000 visitors generating well over 18.000 page loads and also got more than 100 new members!!
The site that appeared back then, was considerably smaller, with only three different passtimes offered: a few Quizzes, a few JigSaws and a few static crosswords which could be printed out on paper and solved with a usual pen. During the past two years the site has grown in both types of pastimes offered, as well as in number of available puzzles within each type.
The oldest parts of this site still use the scripts produced durÃÂng fall/autumn 2004 (before the site opened). For the comming year I hope to be able to look over Try & Trix and improve the functionalities both behind the scenes and visibly to all. I also have a few ideas on things I'd like to implement from scratch... You'll hear more about this as I've had time to fix these things up.
A few weeks ago, we finally learned the title of the seventh book. There is one new jigsaw added, which is inspired by this title.
In the summer, movie OOTP will finally be released in theaters worldwide. And the mere fact that we now have the 7th title makes it likely will learn more about the final book during this year too... Perhaps even get it? 
So this year looks promising on the HP horizon...

Real life Christmas preparations among many other things have kept me busy elsewhere for a month...
The nearest few hours I will work on a few things that need to be fixed.
Fixed things- I have made certain that the HBP crossword now can be solved even without logging in.
- The FAQ and spoiler info is updated after JKR's revelation of the title December 21st.
- Edited Dec 29th: Fixed the menu by reverting to another version of the CSS file. For the moment this affects the footer which has got the same size and color as the rest and possibly a few other things. I'll try to rectify that as soon as possible...

Last week the server Try & Trix resides on was exchanged for a new and better one. During the change T&T was unreachable for a day or so.
Unfortunately something odd happened at the change... Suddenly the link colors have gotten a will of their own!?! For those of you surfing through Internet Explorer the link colors are acting up, if you have another browser the site looks like it always has done! ( In technical terms: It appears as if a:visited is displayed as either a:active or a:hover in the css definition?!?  ) Weird to say the least... I am trying to understand this problem in order to correct it, so far no luck, but I'll keep trying to find a solution.
This morning I suddenly realised that the crossword part of the site broke too, but this problem is now fixed and all crosswords work as intended.

Sometimes you intend to do one thing, but accidentally do another... Today I intended to put one of our new members on the AOL fix, and accidentally had the change applied to each and everyone! I have now rectified this situation, I think. Noone who is not on AOL is on this list, however there is a slim risk that I don't remember everyone who should be on it. So, if any of you, whose Internet provider is AOL, will find yourselves in a situation where you have trouble to stay logged in, just post a heads-up in the guestbook together with your username here, and I will fix it ASAP. Sorry for any inconvenience!

| Posted at 2006-10-10 22:43:59 | | Finally More Puzzles! | This summer I finally got an image manipulation program worth the name, so it suddenly became possible to play around with WB Webring's images in a more creative way than before. (Not that the results couldn't be better...)As a result there are four new JigSaw Puzzles up now.
Also, two new Quizzes has been constructed since last time, one Year Quiz and - finally - a GOF Movie Quiz. Both of which I think are tricky...
The updating emails have been sent to everyone on the email list!
However, two of the email addresses have permanent failures. Hence the two members affected by this (Sunshine*Daisies and SRFHfangirl) have now been removed from the email list and are also back as validating members. As I can't send a new confirmation code, for obvious reasons, you will have to contact me before you can login the next time. As certain functionality here (such as send an email on a forgotten password, for instance) rely on the email address to be correct, a valid email address is required for membership. However, I do understand that one can forget to update an email address in the various places where you register. So it's simply a matter of re-establishing contact, and making certain that no emails bounce.

An update is finally closing in though. So far you'll see this through removed NEW flags on some puzzles, and I've decided to remove the not too good looking old Walpurgis Night JigSaw as well.
Behind the scene, I've finally constructed a better way to administer the mail list for those who wants emails on updates. This has no visible effect to anyone but me, but for me it will greatly reduce the time it take to construct these emails. Yay!

Another thing that happened in the meantime was Jo putting up WOMBAT Grade 2. I found the test very hard and was sure I'd failed it... ... But to my complete disbelief and awe, I got an ! WOOOHOOO!
On Grade 1 I achieved an  which I am also very happy with. |
