Replaced a word in the Location Quiz!
Thanks to SteveZ who alerted me to mixing up the two words Mansion and Manor. In my brain these words meant exactly the same thing, which apparently isn't completely true, but as Jo uses the word form Manor and the quiz is meant to be easy this is a mute point anyway. I intended to use her word, and now at least, the quiz does.

I appologice for any confusion this might have created and everyone on the highscore list has got one point added to their score, assuming that was (one of) your mistake(s). *joking*

Also, welcome to the newest member! *supergrin*

Interactive crosswords work again!
I posted yesterday:
I only just found out that the interactive crosswords aren't too happy with something... They plainly refuses to respond.
This is now fixed. It was something as little, yet irritating, as a spelling mistake.

Fewer things open in new windows
Welcome to the newest members! *supergrin*

I've just systematically checked all files of this site, for the first time since the pages were created, for links which open things in a new window. To my horror I quickly found far more such than I was happy with. *alarmed* What remain as such are the following:
  1. Links from an open puzzle to a help page. You should never fear to loose a part solution because you need help in the middle of solving something.

  2. A pair of links which lead to extra information and can be anticipated to be used in the middle of someone filling in a form. Same reason as above.

  3. Links which leave Try & Trix entirely. For the moment all such open in new windows, as a signal of you leaving this site.

In the process of this the highscore list and MyResults pages has got a few extra changes.

New Puzzles - Happy Birthday!
Today is July 31st, which marks two significant birthdays for any hard-core HP fan. *joking*

Happy Birthday, Jo Rowling!I hope you have a great day! *supergrin*

Happy Birthday, Harry! He deserves an *Outstanding!* birthday for a change! *joking*

Welcome to the newest member! *big smile*

As a celebration for Harry, there are three new puzzles up now, and more are comming...

The Logic Puzzles have got the most diverse ratings of all puzzles here. Both original puzzles have got every rating from Easy to Challenging! As such I have tried to supply you with more variation in difficulty. The Mini Witch Quest is therefore as small as it is possible to make it, and Five Friends Forever is quite complex - at least I think so. *non-plussed* It does, however, contain a clue which can be used to lessen the complexity somewhat. However, it is fully possible to solve it without the clue. I do think that you need a paper, or text editor window, on the side to make notes in, along the way. Good luck! *big smile*

The third puzzle is a hopefully easy Location Quiz. Without a doubt it's the easy category that is under-represented at this site. I've set out to make easy quizzes before, but they generally become more complex before they are finnished. Still, I think the site need more than one easy quiz.

Speaking of the quizzes, they are now ordered alfabetically, within each subject. All quizzes are still there, it's just a re-ordering.

Welcome back and enjoy! *supergrin*

The updating emails have been sent to everyone on the maillist! *big smile*

See also below, last news item is less than a day old, when I write this... and most messages on this page are new since the last bunch of updating emails.

Faster loading time - Home sweet home
Hi everyone!

I'm just home from a longer visit to my summer paradise. This year's vacation became a bit upside-down due to real life concerns. With a little piece of luck, things are calming down now, and are more back to normal.

Weather-wise it has been a fantastic summer, though. Last time Sweden came close to this weather was twelve years ago!!! *supergrin*

Anyway, the ajustments I was trixing with in early July, are finally implemented everywhere. All CSS and JS-code are now loaded separately, and as a result the pages load a lot quicker. Even on broadband this is notable... *rolleyes* Sorry it took so long!

I also have a few new puzzles on the way, not least the reason why I had to redo the logic pages...

New Smilies Added and More
So! Some of the other smaller updates on site appearance that I have just postponed for awhile has been taken care of now. *supergrin*

About a month ago, I came across a site with lovely HP smilies (among other things). Thanks to Quibbler (at the Leaky Lounge) for allowing me to use them! *Outstanding!* The site, Butterbier, is now added to my link page.

I have also corrected the latest news link on top of all pages to say that instead of "newest news".

See also below, last news update was yesterday.

New Logic Pages

And this programming has proved to take more time than I had hoped. So the rest of the update will come later. *smile*

FINALLY this reprogramming now works! *supergrin* Today the new pages have been added to the site and as far as I know all internal links are updated to use the new files. If you do come across an internal link to the old page, please notify me! *smile*

If you have an old bookmark to the old logic page, please update it. For the moment the old page is replaced by a placeholder but it will not remain there forever. *smile*

At the moment there are no new puzzles, but they are comming...

Small update to the FAQ
I've just made some minor changes to the FAQ such as clarifying the help for people with login problems slightly, and reformulated the AOL help. More specifically I've removed all references from last year to "in June".

Rating Bug Fixed
Yesterday, I realised one reason why noone has rated the Sphinx Riddles so far... Apparently it lead to an error message, and so was impossible. *sad*

This irritating bug has now been fixed, and the rating function is once again working for all puzzles. Next time you come across something that doesn't work, please alert me through the guestbook or owlpost. That way it'll get fixed quicker... *joking*

Welcome to the newest members! *supergrin*

Later edited in: Also added info about the latest news article immidiately below the menu at any page. If you have any comments on this change (or any other) please use the guestbook (or owlpost if you're logged in.) *big smile*

House Banner Debacle Fixed

Unfortunately I just spotted a trouble with the House Banners. I have a gnawing suspicion this has been the case for months now, but I just became aware of it! When you're Sorted into a House, you'll see a House Banner and a piece of code that you can copy and place on your own site, signature or whereever. Supposedly, this code should make that very image appear whereever you insert the code. Unfortunately the image provided by that code is this one: (missing image). *sad* ...

The code that lead to this error is now corrected, and so the code you'll receive from now on will work. *smile*

You still have to copy the changed code from this site, though. Members have two options in how to get the updated code:
Go to Members/MyCP in the menu and choose to see your House Banner code.

Guests will have to redo the Sorting however, as Try & Trix has no record of your result.

I'm sorry for this inconvenience... *blush*

Boom and House Banner Menace
Welcome to all new members! *supergrin*

The last few days it has been an incredible boom in visited pages: about the same amount during the last four days as we'd had for the rest of May... *smile* In fact, this Sunday the value was higher than on any day since Try & Trix started!

Another good piece of news is that I've got myself a new computer. And after spending quite some time installing lots of new things, I will soon be back working on the updates of this site, without having to worry about running out of memory and other "fun" things.

Another correction
Welcome to the newest member! *big smile*

SteveZ and winky sure have keen eyes! *big smile* They both reported (the same) error in the new POA Movie Quiz, within the first 12 hours since it was added! Thanks a million! *big smile* I really am sorry that was wrong in the first place , but at least it was corrected immidiately this time. And I truelly appreciate the heads-up from the two of you!

I've ajusted the score on that quiz for the three people who have taken it so far. Adding another point to each of them.

If you haven't read news items below, please do. Several has been added since the update owlposts where sent out in March. *smile* And the newest isn't 24 hours old.

New area added and more...
Finally! The first part of the pending new puzzles is up and running! *supergrin* The biggest change is a new area Sphinx Riddles, which can be found under Puzzles in the menu. Go check it out! *smile*

Two new quizzes are up too, a book and a movie quiz.

More things are comming, but I realised I had to re-program the way the logic puzzles are displayed before new such puzzles can be added... Currently, it's a monumental work to add more things. And this programming has proved to take more time than I had hoped. So the rest of the update will come later. *smile*

Welcome to the newest members! *supergrin*

The update emails has been sent to all confirmed members on the mailing list. *smile*

Updated the welcome page to reflect the existence of the Sphinx Riddles. Better late than never... *rolleyes*
