| Posted at 2006-01-06 15:14:26 | | Happy Birthday Try & Trix! | Exactly a year ago Try & Trix appeared on the Internet horizon, after nearly six months of preparations.  In the past year Try & Trix had over 4.000 visitors generating well over 17.000 page loads!!
It's been a really interesting year, and a very happy Harry year with both HBP and movie GOF appearing! 
This year we can look forward to movie GOF on VHS/DVD and, if we're lucky, some updates on Jo's homepage... But other than that it's mostly savouring our Harry moments from the six books, the two companion books, the movies, games for the younger fans and internet fansites. I'll be very proud if Try & Trix will be able to give some of you a "Harry-fix" once in awhile. We've largely got to keep the magic alive on ourselves this year...
... so welcome back and I hope you'll have a good time here in the future too!

Unfortunately the new interactive crossword part stopped working for a few hours today, as a result of a mindslip on my part.  This is now fixed, and the CWs are here to stay. Sorry for the inconvenience!
I also wish to thank acciofirebolt29 who made me aware that one of the quizzes is missbehaving! I will look into that ASAP (probably tomorrow or the next day). In the meantime Quote Quiz 1 will get an Invisibility Cloak on.
If you have a message for me, the quickest way to make me spot it, generally speaking, is either through owlpost or guestbook. Still, the rating comments work too.
Finally, if you find a CW to be too hard, don't hesitate to make use of the hints. It should make it considerably easier to solve.

| Posted at 2006-01-03 21:48:09 | | Introducing interactive CWs!!! | Jan 6th, 2006 Try & Trix will be one year old! This is celebrated with the introduction of a brand new interactive crossword application, crossTrixer, which is replacing the old stationary crossword part. From now on you will be able to solve the crosswords here, at the screen! Finally this site is completely interactive!!! Logged in members can also save their results in the database in the same way as the quizzes work.
I will continue to develop crossTrixer further, but I believe it is good enough to start using now. However, if you experience any problems with it, that the new CW Help page doesn't resolve, or you have a feature request, don't hesitate to tell me so! Positive feedback is of course welcome, too.
Another result of the Anniversery closing in, is that I've been going through most pages here, to try to make certain that all relevant pieces of information became up to date. After all Try & Trix isn't "brand new" any longer and so more information than the crossword pages have been updated. In particular this is true for the welcome and crossword pages. Other than that, however, it's mostly rewordings, and a few extra helpfull links that's been added at a few places. Also, the Privacy Policy has been clarified a bit. You can check it out here if you want to, although it's not a big change.
I've also clarified the spoiler policy a bit more as HBP has now been out for quite some time. Still, removing it would have consequences for most puzzles here, so it is not done just any day. Hence, I've added this part:
"This means, among other things, that the ONLY puzzles that make use of knowledge from HBP are currently those in the HBP category. In all other puzzles the correct answer(s) is/are determined on info pre-HBP, unless otherwise stated in the description of that puzzle."
I hope we all have another great puzzling year ahead of us! Welcome back on this new year!

| Posted at 2006-01-01 23:37:00 | | Minor updates | As a step in the integration procedure several other pages has been (or will be) updated, too. In some cases small other things are (deliberately) changed simultaneously. For example, members can't check their results and ratings through MyCP any longer. Instead MyCP is all about updating your account settings here, which makes more sense. And for a few months now, links to results and ratings has been incorporated in the Member submenu directly.
Should you get any error message from any page, please inform me through the guestbook (or owlpost for logged in members). I am not aware of any page missbehaving, but that's never a guarantee when lots of pages are changed simultaneously, however slightly.
I hope you'll all get a marvelous 2006!

I'm sorry for the looong time this site has been without visible updates. The reason is, however, that I have been programming intensely on spare time for the last two months... To put together a great new functionality in time for Try & Trix's One Year Anniversary January 6th.
The functionality in and of itself is working, but I still need to integrate it to the rest of this site, something that might take a few more days. I do think it will be ready for the Anniversery, though. In the meantime, the Crossword part of this site will stop working. Trying to access that part, will only lead you to this page.
The inconvenience and wait will be worth it, though, because when everything fits together nicely, the crosswords will come back in interactive form! It has long vexed me that there was one part of this site which wasn't interactive... And soon that's to change!

It wasn't all I could dream of, but I guess they've done a good job cramming it into so little (2 hours 37 min) time. Surprisingly, some details I've never expected to see, were indeed included! I'll stop the description here, not to ruin anything for someone.
Two days ago the first snow fell! It wasn't much, but it's still there. So now it's much lighter when I look out of my window.
I've added a new link to at the link page. It's a unique and fun 3-dim chat for HP fans. You'll need an account over there to participate, but there's also a possibility to apply for it. |

Today I have finally had time to ajust a few things behind the scenes that I began thinking about in the summer. Though you will see nothing of it to begin with, it makes handling this site a lot easier, and so other changes, some of which you will see, are now that much closer to come true.
I have also added a huge crossword whose central theme is HBP. As such, it has the same kind of spoiler protection as the HBP Quizzes. Good Luck! |

I've changed the layout on the Choose a Crossword page. This is closer to the layout at other pages here and also displays more info about the crosswords. It's also updated so it'll show the "NEW!" indicators when it's applicable and now has the same spoiler protection as the Quiz page has. This will be needed in just a little while... 
I've also updated the link page and added a new puzzler site as well as a new HP community for friendly, mature, in-depth HP discussions. The link page also mark the newest links now.

Today two more quizzes appeared: General COS Quiz and Quote Quiz 2, the latter containing quotes from all six books, and hence it is spoiler marked.
Also five new jigsaw puzzles have been added, starring various Tri-Wizard combatants. They all need help to get back in shape for the Tournament.

I've just updated the crossword files to clarify that you have to solve them on paper, currently. I'm sorry about this. I'd love to have them interactual, but I have very vague ideas on how to achieve it. And absolutely no time to try to code it, which likely would take a lot of time if I tried. Over the months, I've repeatedly been asked if there was a way to fill them in at the site. And today, I finally decided to add this explanation at the pages in question.
I've also spotted an old formulation and updated it.
There are more puzzles on the way, but my puzzle creation time have been very limited this fall/autumn, so you'll have to wait some more time. Hopefully I'll be able to update one of the nearest weeks.
I also just realised that today it's exactly nine months since I opened the site up! I hope you all have had a lot of fun here during the past months! |

Today one Quiz about OOTP has been added, as well as three new jigsaw puzzles. And more puzzles are on their way...
Another change is that all new quizzes and jigsaws now has an indicator: NEW!
If, for some reason you have a trouble to login or stay logged in, notify me through the Guestbook and I can help you solve the problem! The same also goes for anyone who for some reason don't receive a confirmation email. (It's ONLY for AOL email addresses I send out extra invitations by hand of myself. )

Today I have changed one of the answers in the HBP Quote Quiz thanks to another Rating comment! (And the other one was changed a bit earlier...) I'm very sorry about this  , and hopefully all faults and other oddities are now taken care of.
