I was just reading some Rate Comments and realised that one of the questions on the General HBP Quiz wasn't very well formulated at all. I'm sorry for this.  When I carefully checked the Quiz, I caught another ambigously formulated question as well.  I've re-formulated both (questions, no 13 and no 17), and I appologise if some of you were fooled.
Anyone who made it into the Highscore list for this quiz prior to these changes, can request to have their score removed from it. I think this is only fair as I might have accidentally tricked you into a lower score than you should have had. So, if you think you were fooled by these questions, just send word with Minerva (the site owl) and I will remove it as soon as possible. You are also welcome to re-take the quiz!
I would also like to remind you about the special Checkbox Scoring. I've also exchanged the shorter info on this in the description of the Who Belongs Where? Quiz to the mentioned link. Hopefully that makes it harder to miss.

You are likely to have (had) big problems with staying logged in at this site, I guess. There is a remedy for this now. Post your username in the Guestbook - or email me if you know my email address. As soon as I know that you have this problem, I can fix it! And it is, from now on, a quick fix to that. So let me know, and we can solve it!

And I understand the login problem of lou's (which isn't related to the weird message below) and am going to try to fix it as soon as possible. If you have not finnished reading HBP and don't want to get spoiled... DON'T open them!!! You can get spoiled by just looking at the questions, too - not just the corrected quiz.
As a way to lessen the risk that they are opened accidentally, you must login to take them.
As usual all kind of feedback is welcome! Either through the Guestbook (everyone) or by owlpost (for logged in members).

At least one of you has received a weird message which begins with countP 2 login: when you login. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce the error, and hence not to fix it either...  If you do receive this message note the following:
1) You are logged in. This message is triggered after the successfull login.
2) Please let me know it occured, and which page you were at when you saw it!!

This site will remain absolutely spoiler free on the whole, but be aware that any puzzle marked with the HBP Category will contain spoilers.
Also, I am going to re-open the guestbook for comments. Although I will strive to keep it spoiler free, and any comment whatsoever giving away content from HBP will be removed as soon as I see it, I have no way to guarantee that noone will post such a thing. Therefore, read it at your own risk!
Anyone who might be interested in what predictions I came up with... Take a look under Links/My HBP Predictions in the menu!

As I want the site to be absolutely spoiler free, I will close down the option to post in the Guestbook over the nearest days. It will be opened again as soon as I've read the book. Likewise, anyone who registers under an AOL address will have to wait for confirmation emails until some time next week when I'm through it. In the meantime I will not check the email address I use to send these confirmations, as a precaution. This is the same email address as Minerva (the site owl) uses. She will continue to deliver your letters, but I'll read them in a few days.
As I guess most people will be reading the nearest days, this shouldn't be a huge inconvenience, hopefully.
Finally, in accordance with a friend's idea, I've posted my predictions on HBP, on a page here some hours ago. You can find it under Links in the menu, if you're interested. Something to laugh at in a few days time, no doubt...

| Posted at 2005-07-04 14:47:16 | | Fixed the confirmation link problem! | Those who have tried to register the latest weeks has unfortunately got a confirmation email where the confirmation link lacked the address to the page! This is now fixed, and everyone I've reason to believe to be affected, should have got a new confirmation message by now. If this is not so, post in the Guestbook, please!
(What happened was a result of the irritating habit of PHP to ignore the values of so called "global variables" unless otherwise told... which is pretty much the opposite to how most programming languages work! )

Now every entry in the menu should lead to the intended place.
Also fixed the positioning bug of the menu, so that it now always stays below the banner.
Edit: Thanks to ArtemisFowl who alerted me about the Quizzes who refused to load! It's now fixed.

| Posted at 2005-06-28 17:07:32 | | New update complete | So, I've redesigned completely how rates are being handled internally by the site. The new way is much more efficient and makes much more sense.
If you experience something that doesn't work, please alert me (through owlpost or guestbook)! And I'll deal with it as soon as possible.
Most of the changes are completely "behind the scenes". The biggest, visible change is that you can now really check how you rated, by choosing Members/MyCP in the menu. (The short cuts are yet to be fixed... but you can see the results through the Control Panel.)
Edited to clarify: No existing rates were lost in this process.
Also added a genuinely new CW to the site.
Update emails have been sent to those on the email list!

I've removed it for now, till I have time to check it out and fix it. It will be back as soon as I've found the problem.
Edit June 27 15:05: Fixed. I had accidentally moved a line... The Quiz is back and working.
Also fixed a bug in how the ratings are displayed, which I spotted when trixing with all files in the big menu change...

| Posted at 2005-06-25 16:23:21 | | Time to Introduce a New Menu! | Finally! The new Drop-Down Menu is here, or almost here... After posting this, I am going to start change pages so that they use the new one instead. I expect it to take a couple of hours before all pages have the new menu. In the meantime a growing number of pages will use the new one whereas some will still use the old one. I hope you can overlook the inconvenience of a menu that looks differently on different pages. It will soon be changed everywhere.
This new menu should look OK in even fairly old browsers, if it doesn't work for you, alert me through email (logged in members) or through the guestbook, please! If you use Internet Explorer, you must have Javascript enabled for it to look as intended, although it should be useable anyway.
Also, I intend to add a few shortcuts to interesting information and the like. Any italic menu alternative is currently not leading anywhere, but will soon do. Fixed.
I'll update this post to reflect how far I've come in the new menu process.
UPDATE 23:23: All pages now have the new menu, I think... I've updated references to the menu in the text throughout the site, I think. If you run into something that doesn't work, alert me through email or guestbook.
I've also added a link to a site explaining HTML and CSS in a nice way and where the concept of drop-down menus through list elements are introduced. Finally I have removed a broken link.

| Posted at 2005-06-25 11:14:57 | | Countdown added | I've just added a free countdown to the site. Although I try to minimise the use of others code on the site, I'm really not that great in Javascript so it's terrific such things as free scripts are available!
Also, as the time of the release varies worldwide I've chosen to let it count down to midnight according to Brittish Summer Time, which as far as I understand it, is the earliest possible time for shops to sell the book if you live in the UK or east of it. I think americans and others to the west of it might have to wait a few hours more.
